Water Versus Energy Drinks

Everyone knows that proper hydration during physical activity is essential. When it is warm outside our bodies perspire more to help us cool down. As our bodies perspire we lose more bodily fluids. It is absolutely crucial to replenish the lost fluids. For the most part, you might not even realize how much water you are losing. That is why it is wise not to rely on thirst as your main source of inspiration for water absorption. You should drink before, during and after physical activity regardless of thirst levels. By remaining properly hydrated you will keep your muscles working properly, you will keep your energy levels up, and you will avoid fatigue.

So how much liquid should you be drinking? Well, there is in fact a recommended dosage. It is wise to drink at least two cups of water approximately two hours prior to physical activity. During physical fitness you should be drinking four to six ounces every 15 to 20minutes. And remember to replenish your body with plenty of water following your fitness regimen.

The next question that a lot of people have is what should I be drinking? For the most part, water is the answer. Certain exercise regimens (especially those lasting longer than an hour) may require a sports drink. Sports drinks provide the body with carbohydrates and minerals essential for physical activity. The carbohydrates provide the body with energy while the minerals replace the electrolytes which are lost as we sweat. The main goal behind sports drinks is to rapidly replace bodily fluids and increase energy. When purchasing one of these energy boosting liquids, simply remember to purchase one that is low in calories and in sugar. This will help you maintain a healthy weight and avoid a sugary crash post workout. So when it comes down to physical activity remember to do it right by keeping your body hydrated.
